On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 event. It was the strongest storm to hit Jamaica in recorded history, and surpassed even the previously catastrophic Hurricane Gilbert in 1988. As a result, there were tens of Melissa-related deaths, about thirteen missing, and nearly one hundred persons injured once all was said and done. On top of that, the damage to infrastructure and the wider economy was, and remains, enormous.
In light of this, Daisy Wong Family Foundation has donated US$500.00 to the reconstruction and repairs of the manse (Pastor’s residence) at New Hope Moravian Church in Rural Westmoreland, Jamaica. Pastor Andrew Walters of the Salem Circuit of Moravian Churches received the donation on behalf of his congregation at New Hope.
Many old, deeply historical, and beloved churches in the path of the storm suffered damage, if not outright destruction. In the surrounding communities, rebuilding in hope and faith is happening today, and will continue in the future. Daisy Wong Family Foundation is humbled to be able to contribute to that effort in our small way.
