Our congratulations go out to Sophia Hogas, a 2026 graduating senior of North Burlington County High School (NBCHS), in Burlington County, New Jersey. One June 10, she became the first annual recipient of the Samuel Isaiah Bill-Smith Scholarship for excellence in athletics or drama.

Along with her classmates, the ceremony was joined by family members of Samuel Isaiah Bill-Smith, including his mother, Telma Bill-Smith, and his brother Darnell Smith and his family. On behalf of the Daisy Wong Family Foundation (DWFF), the award was jointly presented to Sophia Hogas by Telma Bill-Smith and DWFF President, Dawne Benjamin. Jacqueline Richardson, daughter of Daisy Wong and longtime Bill-Smith family friend who knew Samuel as a defacto aunt, was also in attendance. Two families with memories and ties to a remarkable person came together to encourage those who embody his legacy.

The Samuel Isaiah Bill-Smith Scholarship is an annual award for a qualifying graduating senior at NBCHS provided by Daisy Wong Family Foundation, and this year, the scholarship was in the amount of $500.00.
